Matthew 24

Jesus Predicts the Destruction of the Temple

1 “Jesus left the temple and was walking away when His disciples came up, pointing out how dope the buildings were.”

2 “But Jesus said, ‘You see all this, I am telling you all, not a single stone here is going to stay stacked. The whole thing is coming down.’”

Signs of the End Times

3 “Later, while chilling on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately and said, ‘Listen, when is all this is going to happen, What signs should we look for to know You are coming back and the end of the world is near,’”

4 “Jesus said, ‘Do not let anyone fool you.’”

5 “‘A lot of people will show up claiming to be Me, saying, “I am the Messiah,” and they will trick a lot of folks.’”

6 “‘You will hear about wars and rumors of wars, but do not panic. These things must happen, but it is not the end yet.’”

7 “‘Nations will beef with nations, kingdoms with kingdoms. There will be famines and earthquakes in all kinds of places.’”

8 “‘But this is just the beginning, like the first contractions of labor.’”

Persecution and Betrayal

9 “‘Then they will hand you over to be persecuted and killed. You will be hated by everyone because of Me.’”

10 “‘At that time, a lot of people will fall away, betray each other, and hate each other.’”

11 “‘Many fake prophets will pop up and fool a lot of people.’”

12 “‘Sin will run wild, and people’s love will grow cold.’”

13 “‘But whoever stays solid to the end will be saved.’”

14 “‘This gospel about God’s kingdom will be preached all over the world as a witness to every nation, and then the end will come.’”

The Abomination of Desolation

15 “‘When you see the ‘abomination of desolation’ that Daniel talked about standing in the holy place (let the readers pay attention),’”

16 “‘that is when the folks in Judea better dip to the mountains.’”

17 “‘If you are on your roof, do not go back inside to grab your stuff.’”

18 “‘If you are in the field, do not run back for your coat.’”

19 “‘It is going to be rough for pregnant women and moms nursing babies during that time.’”

20 “‘Pray that it does not happen in winter or on the Sabbath.’”

21 “‘There will be a time of trouble so bad, it is worse than anything the world’s ever seen, and it will never be that bad again.’”

22 “‘If those days were not cut short, nobody would survive. But for the sake of God’s chosen people, those days will be shortened.’”

False Messiahs

23 “‘If anyone says to you, “Look, here is the Messiah!” or “There He is!” do not believe them.’”

24 “‘Fake messiahs and prophets will show up, performing wild signs and wonders to fool even God’s chosen people, if that is possible.’”

25 “‘I am telling you this ahead of time.’”

26 “‘If someone says, “He is out in the wilderness,” do not go. Or, “He is hiding in a room,” do not believe it.’”

27 “‘When the Son of Man comes, it will be like lightning flashing across the sky, you will not miss it.’”

28 “‘Where there is a dead body, the vultures will gather.’”

The Coming of the Son of Man

29 “‘Right after those days of trouble, the sun will go dark, the moon will not shine, the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavens will be shaken.’”

30 “‘Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with power and mad glory.’”

31 “‘He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet, and they will gather His chosen people from all over the world, from one end of the sky to the other.’”

The Lesson from the Fig Tree

32 “‘Learn this lesson from the fig tree: When its branches sprout and its leaves show, you know summer is near.’”

33 “‘In the same way, when you see all these things happening, you will know the end is near, right at the door.’”

34 “‘I am telling you, this generation will not pass away until all these things happen.’”

35 “‘Heaven and earth will disappear, but My words will never disappear.’”

Nobody Knows the Day or Hour

36 “‘Nobody knows the day or the hour, not the angels, not the Son, only the Father.’”

37 “‘When the Son of Man comes, it will be like Noah’s days.’”

38 “‘Back then, people were eating, drinking, getting married, doing their thing, right up until Noah went into the ark.’”

39 “‘They did not see it coming until the flood hit and wiped them out. That is how it will be when the Son of Man comes.’”

40 “‘Two men will be in the field, one will be taken, the other left.’”

41 “‘Two women will be grinding grain, one will be taken, the other left.’”

42 “‘So stay woke, because you do not know what day your Lord is coming.’”

Stay Ready

43 “‘If a homeowner knew when the thief was coming, he would stay up and stop the break-in.’”

44 “‘So you all better be ready, because the Son of Man will come when you are not expecting Him.’”

Faithful and Wicked Servants

45 “‘Who is the faithful and wise servant that the master puts in charge of the household to give everyone their food at the right time?’”

46 “‘Blessed is the servant the master finds doing their job when he comes back.’”

47 “‘I am telling you, the master will put them in charge of all his stuff.’”

48 “‘But if that servant is shady and says, “My master’s taking too long,”’”

49 “‘and starts bullying the other servants and partying with drunks,’”

50 “‘the master will show up when they least expect it.’”

51 “‘He will deal with that servant harshly and put them with the hypocrites, where there is weeping and grinding of teeth.’”
