Luke 17

Sin, Faith, and Forgiveness

1 Jesus said to His disciples, “It is impossible for stumbling blocks not to come, but woe to the one they come through.

2 It would be better for them to have a heavy stone tied around their neck and be thrown into the sea than to cause one of these little ones to stumble.

3 Watch yourselves. If your brother sins, correct him; and if he repents, forgive him.

4 Even if he sins against you seven times in a day and comes back each time saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”

5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.”

6 He said, “If you have faith even the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”

Unworthy Servants

7 “Which one of you has a servant out plowing or taking care of sheep who comes in from the field and says, ‘Come right away and sit down to eat’,

8 Will he not instead say, ‘Prepare my meal, get ready, and serve me while I eat and drink, then afterward you can eat’,

9 Does he thank the servant because he did what he was told,

10 In the same way, when you have done everything you were told to do, say, ‘We are unworthy servants, we have only done what was our duty.’”

Jesus Heals Ten Lepers

11 On His way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee.

12 As He entered a village, ten men with leprosy met Him. They stood at a distance

13 and called out loud, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”

14 When He saw them, He said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” As they were going, they were made clean.

15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back praising God with a loud voice.

16 He fell face down at Jesus’ feet, thanking Him, and he was a Samaritan.

17 Jesus said, “Were not ten made clean, Where are the other nine,

18 Did not any come back to give glory to God except this outsider?”

19 Then He said to him, “Get up and go, your faith has made you well.”

The Coming of the Kingdom

20 When He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered, “The kingdom of God is not coming in a way you can watch for.

21 People will not say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst.”

22 Then He said to His disciples, “The days are coming when you will want to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it.

23 People will say to you, ‘Look, there He is!’ or ‘Look, here!’ Do not go running after them.

24 Because just like lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, that is how the Son of Man will be in His day.

25 But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

26 Just like it was in the days of Noah, that is how it will be in the days of the Son of Man.

27 People were eating, drinking, marrying, being given in marriage, right up until Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and wiped them all out.

28 Same thing in the days of Lot, people were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building.

29 But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

30 It will be just like that on the day the Son of Man is revealed.

31 On that day, if someone is on the roof and their stuff is inside, do not go down to get it. If someone is out in the field, do not turn back.

32 Remember Lot’s wife.

33 Whoever tries to hold onto their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life will keep it.

34 I am telling you, on that night, two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left.

35 Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left.”

36 Two men will be out in the field; one will be taken and the other left behind.

37 They asked Him, “Where, Lord?” He said to them, “Where there is a body, there the vultures will gather.”
