Leviticus 9

Aaron Begins His Priesthood

1 On the eighth day, Moses called Aaron and his sons and the elders of Israel.

2 He told Aaron, bring a young calf for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering. Both must have no defects and be presented to the Lord.

3 Tell the Israelites, bring a male goat for a sin offering, a calf and a lamb for a burnt offering, both one year old and with no defects.

4 Also bring a bull and a ram for a peace offering, along with a grain offering mixed with oil, because today the Lord will appear to you.

5 The people brought everything Moses commanded to the front of the Tabernacle, and the whole community came near and stood before the Lord.

6 Moses said, this is what the Lord commanded you to do so His glory will appear to you.

7 Then Moses told Aaron, step up to the altar and offer your sin offering and burnt offering to make atonement for yourself and the people. Then present the people’s offering to make atonement for them, just as the Lord commanded.

Aaron Offers the Sin Offering for Himself

8 Aaron stepped up to the altar and slaughtered the calf for his own sin offering.

9 His sons brought him the blood, and he dipped his finger in it, put it on the horns of the altar, and poured the rest at the base of the altar.

10 He burned the fat, kidneys, and the liver lobe on the altar, just as the Lord commanded Moses.

11 But the meat and hide were burned outside the camp.

Aaron Offers the Burnt Offering for Himself

12 Then he slaughtered the burnt offering. His sons handed him the blood, and he splashed it on all sides of the altar.

13 They handed him the burnt offering pieces, including the head, and he burned them on the altar.

14 He washed the insides and legs and burned them on the altar with the rest of the burnt offering.

Aaron Offers the People’s Sin Offering

15 Then he presented the people’s sin offering. He took the goat for their sin, slaughtered it, and offered it just like his own sin offering.

Aaron Offers the People’s Burnt Offering

16 Then he brought the burnt offering and presented it just as required.

17 He also presented the grain offering, took a handful of it, and burned it on the altar along with the morning burnt offering.

Aaron Offers the Peace Offering & Grain Offering

18 Then he slaughtered the bull and the ram as a peace offering for the people. His sons handed him the blood, and he splashed it on all sides of the altar.

19 They handed him the fat from the bull and ram, the fat tail, the fat covering the organs, the kidneys, and the liver lobe.

20 They placed the fat on the chest portions, and Aaron burned the fat on the altar.

21 But he lifted up the chest and the right thigh as a special offering before the Lord, just as Moses commanded.

God’s Glory Appears to the People

22 Then Aaron lifted his hands toward the people, blessed them, and stepped down after offering the sin offering, burnt offering, and peace offering.

23 Moses and Aaron went into the Tabernacle. When they came out, they blessed the people, and the glory of the Lord appeared to the whole community.

24 Fire came out from the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and fat on the altar. When the people saw it, they shouted and fell facedown in worship.
