Leviticus 24

The Oil for the Lampstand

1 The Lord spoke to Moses.

2 Tell the Israelites to bring pure olive oil for the lamps so they stay lit constantly.

3 Aaron must keep the lamps burning outside the curtain of the Testimony in the Tabernacle from evening until morning before the Lord. This law is permanent for all generations.

4 He must keep the lamps on the pure gold lampstand burning before the Lord at all times.

The Bread for the Tabernacle

5 Take fine flour and bake twelve loaves of bread. Each loaf must be made with four quarts of flour.

6 Arrange them in two stacks of six on the pure gold table before the Lord.

7 Put pure frankincense on each stack as a memorial portion, a food offering to the Lord.

8 Every Sabbath, the bread must be set out before the Lord as a permanent covenant from the Israelites.

9 Aaron and his sons must eat it in a holy place, because it is the most holy portion from the Lord’s food offerings. This is a permanent law.

The Man Who Blasphemed God’s Name

10 One day, a man whose mother was an Israelite and father was an Egyptian got into a fight with an Israelite in the camp.

11 During the fight, the half-Israelite man cursed and blasphemed the Lord’s name. They brought him to Moses.

12 They held him in custody until the Lord told them what to do.

13 The Lord told Moses.

14 Take the blasphemer outside the camp. Everyone who heard him curse must lay their hands on his head, then the whole community must stone him.

15 Tell the Israelites, anyone who blasphemes the name of the Lord must bear the consequences.

16 Anyone who speaks against the Lord’s name must be put to death. The whole community must stone them, whether they are an Israelite or a foreigner living among you.

Laws About Justice and Fairness

17 Anyone who kills another person must be put to death.

18 Anyone who kills someone else’s animal must repay them, life for life.

19 If anyone injures another person, the same injury must be done to them.

20 Fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. Whatever they did must be done back to them.

21 Whoever kills an animal must pay for it, but whoever kills a person must be put to death.

22 The same law applies to both Israelites and foreigners living among you. I am the Lord your God.

The Blasphemer Is Executed

23 Moses told the Israelites what the Lord commanded. They took the blasphemer outside the camp and stoned him to death. The Israelites obeyed what the Lord commanded Moses.
