Joshua 16

Read Joshua 16 in clear, relatable modern language.

Joseph’s Kids Get Their Lot

1 The land for Joseph’s sons - Manasseh and Ephraim - started at the Jordan River near Jericho, went east to the waters of Jericho, then into the desert going up from Jericho through the hill country to Bethel.

2 From Bethel, the border rolled out to Luz, then went past Ataroth, near the Arkite territory.

3 Then it dropped west to the Japhletite border, went down to Lower Beth-horon, and landed at Gezer - ending at the sea.

4 That is how the land was split between the sons of Joseph - Ephraim and Manasseh.

Ephraim’s Hood Mapped Out

5 Ephraim’s tribe, by family, got land starting at Ataroth-addar in the east to Upper Beth-horon.

6 The border moved out west to Michmethath on the north side, curved east to Taanath-shiloh, and ran by it to the east of Janoah.

7 Then it dropped to Ataroth and Naarah, touched Jericho, and ended at the Jordan River.

8 From Tappuah, the border ran west to the Kanah River and stopped at the sea. That is what Ephraim’s people got, town by town.

9 They also had towns and villages inside Manasseh’s territory - extra spots that belonged to Ephraim.

They Did Not Handle All Their Business

10 But Ephraim did not drive out the Canaanites living in Gezer. So those folks still live there, but now they doing forced labor for Ephraim’s people, even to this day.
