Jonah’s Prayer
Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from inside the fish.
He said, “In my trouble I called out to the LORD, and He answered me. From deep in the grave I cried for help, and You heard my voice.
You threw me into the deep, into the middle of the seas, and the current wrapped around me. All Your waves and breakers passed over me.
I said, ‘I have been driven away from Your sight, but I will look again toward Your holy temple.’
The water closed in around me, deep waters surrounded me, seaweed wrapped around my head.
I sank down to the roots of the mountains. The earth locked me in forever, but You brought my life up from the pit, LORD my God.
When my life was fading away, I remembered the LORD, and my prayer came to You, into Your holy temple.
Those who hold on to worthless idols turn away from faithful love,
but I will sacrifice to You with a voice of thanksgiving. What I promised, I will pay. Salvation belongs to the LORD.”
Then the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah out onto dry land.
