Urban Word Bible
Job 18
Read Job 18 in clear, relatable modern language.
Bildad Calls Job Out
Then Bildad the Shuhite spoke up and said,
“How long are you going to throw words around, Chill, think first, then we will talk.
Why are you treating us like we stupid, like we beneath you,
You tearing yourself apart with anger, should the earth bend for you, or the rocks move outta place because you mad?”
The Fate of the Wicked
“The light of the wicked gets snuffed out, their fire do not even flicker.
The light in their tent turns dark, their lamp goes out above them.
Their steps lose strength, and their own schemes trip them up.
They walk right into a net, get tangled in the trap.
A snare grabs them by the heel; a trap locks down on them.
A rope’s hidden in the dirt for them, a trap waits on their path.
Terrors chase them from every side, hunting them down.
Hunger eats up their strength, disaster is right there waiting.
Disease devours their skin, death’s firstborn eats their limbs.
They are ripped from the safety of their tent, dragged before the king of terrors.
Their tent gets burned down with sulfur, no peace in their place.
Roots shrivel underneath, branches wither up top.
Their name’s erased from the earth, no memory in the streets.
They are driven outta light into darkness, pushed off the block.
No kids, no descendants left, no survivors where they lived.
People in the west are shocked at their fall; folks in the east are terrified too.
That is what happens to the homes of the wicked, places where folks forget God.”
