Job 11

Zophar Calls Job Out

1 Then Zophar the Naamathite jumped in and spoke up.

2 “Should not somebody answer all this talk, Should a man be justified just because he runs his mouth,

3 Should your loud words shut people up, Should nobody check you when you mock,

4 You have been saying, ‘My teaching is clean, I am innocent in God’s eyes.’

5 But oh, how I wish God Himself would speak, open His lips against you,

6 And reveal the secrets of wisdom, true wisdom has two sides. Know this: God is already punishing you less than you actually deserve.”

God’s Wisdom Is Beyond You

7 “Can you figure out the deep things of God, Can you probe the limits of the Almighty,

8 They are higher than the heavens above, what can you do, They are deeper than the grave, what can you know,

9 They are longer than the earth, wider than the sea.

10 If He passes by, locks someone up, or calls them into court, who is going to stop Him,

11 He knows worthless men, He sees evil, will He not take notice,

12 But a stupid man will get wisdom only when a wild donkey’s colt is born human.”

Repent and Be Restored

13 “If you would set your heart right, stretch out your hands to Him,

14 If there is evil in your hands, get rid of it, do not let wickedness live in your tent,

15 Then surely you could lift up your face without shame, stand firm and fearless.

16 You would forget your misery, remember it like water that is flowed away.

17 Your life would be brighter than noonday, and even darkness would feel like morning.

18 You would be secure, because there is hope; you would look around and lie down in safety.

19 You would lie down, nobody would scare you, and many would seek your favor.

20 But the eyes of the wicked, they will fail. No escape for them; their only hope is to breathe their last.”
