Judgment Against the Philistines
1 This is the word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck Gaza.
The Flood from the North
2 This is what the LORD says: “Look, waters are rising from the north. They will overflow like a flood And cover the land and everything in it, The cities and those who live in them. People will cry out; Everyone in the land will wail.”
3 “At the sound of pounding hooves, At the rush of chariots, At the rumble of wheels, Fathers will not even turn back for their children, Their hands will go limp.”
4 “For the day has come to destroy all the Philistines, To cut off from Tyre and Sidon every remaining ally. For the LORD is destroying the Philistines, The survivors from the coast of Caphtor.”
Mourning and Desolation
5 “Gaza has shaved her head in grief; Ashkelon is silenced. You remnant of their valley, How long will you cut yourselves?”
The Sword of the LORD
6 “Ah, sword of the LORD! How long before you rest, Go back into your sheath; Be still and quiet.”
7 “But how can it be quiet, When the LORD has given it orders, Against Ashkelon and the seacoast, There He has appointed it.”
