Jeremiah 33

Read Jeremiah 33 in clear, relatable modern language.

The LORD Promises Restoration

1 While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the LORD came to him a second time:

2 “This is what the LORD says, He who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it, The LORD is His name:”

3 “Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

Judah Will Be Healed and Restored

4 “For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says about the houses in this city and the palaces of the kings of Judah that are torn down for defense against siege ramps and the sword:”

5 “They will be filled with the dead bodies of the men I will strike down in My anger and wrath. I will hide My face from this city because of all its wickedness.”

6 “Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it and heal them. I will reveal to them an abundance of peace and truth.”

7 “I will restore the fortunes of Judah and Israel and rebuild them as they were before.”

8 “I will cleanse them from all the guilt of their sin against Me, and I will forgive all the guilt of their sin and rebellion against Me.”

9 “This city will bring Me renown, joy, praise, and glory before all the nations of the earth that hear of all the good I do for it. They will fear and tremble because of all the prosperity and peace I provide for it.”

Joy Will Return to the Land

10 “This is what the LORD says: In this place you say is a wasteland, without people or animals, In the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate?”

11 “there will again be heard the sounds of joy and gladness, The voices of the bride and groom, And the voices of those who bring thank offerings to the house of the LORD, saying: ‘Give thanks to the LORD of armies, for the LORD is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting.’ For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were before,” says the LORD.

The Land Will Flourish Again

12 “This is what the LORD of armies says: In this place that is desolate, without people or animals, and in all its cities, There will again be pastures for shepherds to rest their flocks.”

13 “In the cities of the hill country, the foothills, the Negev, the land of Benjamin, the areas around Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, Flocks will again pass under the hands of the one who counts them,” says the LORD.

The Righteous Branch from David

14 “The days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah.”

15 “In those days and at that time, I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, And He will administer justice and righteousness in the land.”

16 “In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will dwell securely, And this is the name by which she will be called: ‘The LORD Our Righteousness.’”

Davidic and Levitical Covenants Secured

17 For this is what the LORD says: “David will never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel.”

18 “And the Levitical priests will never lack a man before Me to offer burnt offerings, burn grain offerings, and make sacrifices.”

God’s Covenant Is Unbreakable

19 The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:

20 “This is what the LORD says: If you can break My covenant with day and My covenant with night, So that day and night no longer come at their appointed time?”

21 “then My covenant with David My servant may also be broken, So that he will not have a son to reign on his throne, And My covenant with the Levitical priests who minister before Me.”

22 “Just as the stars of the sky cannot be counted and the sand of the sea cannot be measured, So I will multiply the descendants of David My servant and the Levites who minister before Me.”

God Has Not Rejected Israel

23 The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:

24 “Have you noticed what these people are saying, They say, ‘The LORD has rejected the two families He chose.’ So they despise My people and no longer regard them as a nation.”

25 “This is what the LORD says: If I have not established My covenant with day and night And the fixed laws of heaven and earth?”

26 “then I would reject the descendants of Jacob and of David My servant And not choose one of his descendants to rule over the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes and have compassion on them.”
