Urban Word Bible
Isaiah 62
Read Isaiah 62 in clear, relatable modern language.
Zion’s Righteousness Shines
1 For Zion’s sake I will not stay silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until her righteousness shines like the sunrise and her salvation like a blazing torch.
2 Nations will see your righteousness, and all kings your glory. You will be called by a new name the Lord Himself will give you.
3 You will be a beautiful crown in the Lord’s hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
A New Identity for God’s People
4 You will not be called “Forsaken” anymore, and your land will not be called “Desolate.” Instead, you will be called “My Delight Is in Her?” And your land “Married,” For the Lord delights in you and your land will be joined to Him.
5 Just like a young man marries a young woman, your sons will marry you; and just like a groom rejoices over his bride, your God will rejoice over you.
Watchmen on the Walls
6 I posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will not be silent, day or night. You who call on the Lord. Do not stop reminding Him.
7 Give Him no rest until He establishes Jerusalem and makes her a praise in the earth.
God Promises Restoration
8 The Lord has sworn by His right hand and by His strong arm: “I will never again let your grain be food for your enemies, and foreigners will not drink the wine you worked hard to make.”
9 Those who harvest it will eat it and praise the Lord; those who gather the grapes will drink the wine in My holy courts.
Prepare the Way
10 Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way for the people. Build up the highway. Clear it of stones. Lift up a banner for the nations.
The Lord Announces Salvation
11 Look, the Lord has announced to the ends of the earth: “Tell the daughter of Zion: look, your salvation is coming. His reward is with Him, and His work is before Him.”
12 They will call you “The Holy People?” “The Redeemed of the Lord.” And you will be called “Sought After?” “A City Not Abandoned.”
