Isaiah 60

Rise and Shine, Zion

1 Arise, shine, your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises on you.

2 Darkness covers the earth and deep darkness covers the people, but the Lord rises on you and His glory appears over you.

3 Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.

Sons and Daughters Return

4 Lift up your eyes and look around. They are all gathering and coming to you. Your sons from far away, your daughters carried in arms.

5 Then you will look and be radiant. Your heart will throb and overflow, as the wealth of the seas flows to you and the riches of nations come to you.

6 A huge caravan of camels will cover your land. Young camels from Midian and Ephah. All from Sheba will come bringing gold and incense and announcing the praise of the Lord.

7 All the flocks of Kedar will be gathered to you; the rams of Nebaioth will serve you. They will be accepted on My altar, and I will glorify My glorious house.

The Nations Assist Zion

8 Who are these who fly like clouds, like doves to their windows,

9 The islands wait for Me, and the ships of Tarshish lead the way. Bringing your children from far away, with their silver and gold, to honor the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel. Because He has glorified you.

10 Foreigners will rebuild your walls and their kings will serve you. Though I struck you in anger, I will show you favor with compassion.

11 Your gates will always stay open. They will not close day or night. So nations can bring you their wealth and their kings can march through.

12 Any nation or kingdom that will not serve you will be destroyed and completely ruined.

Beauty for Ashes

13 The glory of Lebanon will come to you. The cypress, the pine, and the box tree. To beautify My sanctuary, and I will make the place of My feet glorious.

14 The children of those who oppressed you will come bowing before you. All who hated you will fall at your feet and call you the City of the Lord, zion of the Holy One of Israel.

Everlasting Honor

15 Though you were abandoned and hated with no one passing through, I will make you an everlasting pride. A joy for all generations.

16 You will nurse on the milk of nations and be carried on royal arms. Then you will know I, the Lord, am your Savior, your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

A Transformed City

17 Instead of bronze I will bring gold; instead of iron, silver; instead of wood, bronze; instead of stone, iron. I will make peace your governor and righteousness your ruler.

18 Violence will no longer be heard in your land, nor ruin and destruction within your borders. You will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise.

The Lord Is Your Everlasting Light

19 The sun will not be your light by day nor the moon shine on you, but the Lord will be your everlasting light and your God will be your glory.

20 Your sun will never set again and your moon will never wane, for the Lord will be your everlasting light and your days of sorrow will end.

21 All your people will be righteous; they will possess the land forever. They are the branch I planted, the work of My hands, so I will be glorified.

22 The least of you will become a thousand, and the smallest a mighty nation. I, the Lord, will make it happen in its appointed time.
