Isaiah 6

Isaiah’s Vision of the Lord

1 In the year King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the whole temple.

2 Above Him were seraphim, heavenly beings, each with six wings: two covering their faces, two covering their feet, and two they used to fly.

3 They called out to each other, saying, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Armies; the whole earth is full of His glory.”

4 The sound of their voices shook the doors, and the place filled up with smoke.

5 Then I said, “Man, I am done for! I am unclean, my mouth dirty, and I live among people with dirty mouths too. And yet I have seen the King, the Lord of Armies!”

6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal he took from the altar with tongs.

7 He touched my mouth with it and said, “This right here has touched your lips, your guilt’s gone, your sin’s wiped clean.”

Isaiah’s Calling

8 Then I heard the Lord’s voice saying, “Who should I send, Who is willing to go for Us?” And I said, “I am right here, send me.”

9 He said, “Alright then, go tell these people: ‘You will hear it, but will not understand; you will see it, but will not get it.’”

10 “Make their hearts hard, make their ears dull, shut their eyes, so they do not see, do not hear, do not understand, and do not turn around to get healed.”

11 Then I asked, “Lord, how long I must do this,” And He said, “Until the cities are empty, houses abandoned, and the land laid waste.”

12 “The Lord is going to send people far away; the whole land is going to look deserted.”

13 “But even if there is only a tenth left, it will still get burned again, like a tree stump after cutting. But that stump, that seed left in it, that is the holy remnant.”
