Urban Word Bible
Isaiah 46
Read Isaiah 46 in clear, relatable modern language.
False Gods Collapse
1 Bel collapses. Nebo falls down. Their idols are loaded on animals, heavy burdens they cannot carry.
2 They all fall together, unable to save the load. They themselves are carried off into captivity.
God Carried His People from the Beginning
3 “Listen to Me, house of Jacob, all you who remain of Israel. I have carried you since you were born, held you since you were in the womb.”
4 “Even when you old and gray, I am still the same. I made you, I will carry you, I will support you, and I will rescue you.”
No One Compares to God
5 “Who you are going to compare Me to, Who you think is My equal?”
6 “Some of you all pour out gold and silver, hire a craftsman to make a god, then you bow down and worship it.”
7 “You lift it up, carry it around, set it down, and there it stays. It cannot move. You cry out to it, but it cannot answer or save you from trouble.”
God Declares the End from the Beginning
8 “Remember this and stand strong. Take it to heart, you rebels.”
9 “Remember what I did long ago, I am God, and there is no other. I am God, and there is none like Me.”
10 “I declare the end from the beginning. From ancient times I tell what is still to come. I say, ‘My plan will stand, and I will do everything I desire.’”
11 “I call a bird of prey from the east, a man from a far land to carry out My purpose. I said it, I will make it happen. I planned it, I will make it real.”
God Brings Righteousness and Salvation
12 “Listen to Me, you stubborn people, whose hearts are far from doing right.”
13 “I am bringing My righteousness close, it is not far off. My salvation will not delay. I will put salvation in Zion and My glory in Israel.”
