Isaiah 41

God Calls the Nations to Listen

1 Be quiet and listen, you coastlands. Let the nations pull up and sit down before Me. Let them come make their case, then let us see what they really got to say.

2 Who raised up that ruler from the east, Who handed nations over to him and let him stomp kings underfoot, He chased them down and moved like dust in the wind.

3 He kept it moving, never slowing down, taking paths his feet never walked before.

4 Who did all this, Who called these generations from the beginning, I, the Lord, the First and the Last, I am the One.

The Nations Try to Strengthen Their Idols

5 The coastlands saw what was coming and got scared. The ends of the earth started shaking. They came together in fear.

6 They kept telling each other, “Come on, bro, stay strong!”

7 The crafter encourages the metalworker, and the one hammering says to the one smoothing metal, “Listen, that looks good!” Then they nail the idol down so it will not fall over.

God Reassures Israel

8 “But you, Israel, My servant. You, Jacob, the one I chose. Descendants of Abraham, My friend.”

9 “I brought you from the ends of the earth, called you from far places. I told you, ‘You My servant, I chose you and did not reject you.’”

10 “So do not trip, I am with you. Do not be scared, I am your God. I am going to strengthen you, help you, and hold you up with My righteous right hand.”

God Crushes Israel’s Enemies

11 “All the ones who come against you, They are going to be embarrassed and ashamed. Those who fight you are going to be nothing, wiped out.”

12 “You will look around for your enemies but will not find them. The ones who came at you will vanish into nothing.”

13 “Because I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand and tell you, ‘Do not be afraid, I am helping you.’”

14 “Do not be scared, little worm Jacob, you tiny Israel, I Myself am helping you?” says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

God Gives Israel Victory

15 “I am making you into a sharp, new threshing tool with teeth. You are going to crush mountains and turn hills into dust.”

16 “You will toss them in the air, and the wind will blow them away. But you will celebrate in the Lord and brag about the Holy One of Israel.”

God Supplies Water and Life

17 “When the poor and needy look for water and cannot find any, when their tongues dry out, I, the Lord, will answer. I will not leave My people hanging.”

18 “I will make rivers flow on bare hills and fountains spring up in valleys. I will turn the desert into pools and the dry ground into springs.”

19 “I will plant cedar trees, acacia, myrtle, olive trees. I will put cypress, fir, and pine together in the wilderness.”

20 “So everybody will see and understand that the Lord’s hand did this, the Holy One of Israel made it happen.”

God Challenges the Idols

21 “Bring your case,” says the Lord. “Let us see your evidence,” says the King of Jacob.

22 “Tell us what is going to happen. Bring out the past events, show us you knew what was going down. Or tell us what is coming next.”

23 “Do something, anything, good or bad, just so we can see you got power. But nah… you all nothing, and whoever trusts you is foolish.”

24 “Look, you all less than zero. Your idols worthless. Anyone who depends on them is straight-up lost.”

God Raises Up His Chosen Conqueror

25 “I stirred up someone from the north, and he is coming. He will call on My name and crush rulers like clay, like a potter smashing a pot.”

26 Who told you this ahead of time, Nobody. Who announced it so you could say, ‘We knew that already’, Nobody said nothing, nobody heard nothing.

27 But I was the first to tell Zion, ‘Look, it is happening!’ and to send good news to Jerusalem.

28 When I looked around, there was nobody, no counselor, no one who could give an answer when I asked.

29 All their idols are empty. Their works are nothing. Their statues are fake, just wind and confusion.
