Isaiah 4

Read Isaiah 4 in clear, relatable modern language.

A Cry for Cover and a Promise of Renewal

1 That day is going to be rough, seven women are going to run up on one man, begging, “We will buy our own food, get our own clothes, just let us carry your name so we will not be out here disgraced.”

The Branch of the Lord Restores Zion

2 But in that same day, the Branch of the Lord, His chosen one, going to shine bright and beautiful. The fruit of the land is going to show off God’s glory for the people of Israel who survive.

3 Everybody left in Zion, everybody who stays in Jerusalem, going to be called holy, written down as those who made it out alive.

4 The Lord is going to wash away the dirt from the women of Zion and clean the blood off Jerusalem’s streets. He is doing it through judgment and the fire of His Spirit.

5 Then the Lord is going to put a cloud of smoke by day and a blazing fire by night over Mount Zion and everyone there, His glory covering everything like a roof.

6 It will be like a shelter giving shade from the heat and protection from the storm and the rain.
