Isaiah 11

The Branch from Jesse

1 A new shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse, a fresh branch rising from his roots.

2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and strength, the Spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord.

3 He will take delight in honoring the Lord. He will not judge by what He sees or decide by what He hears.

4 He will judge the poor with righteousness, and handle the broken with fairness. He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth and kill the wicked with just a word.

5 Righteousness will be His belt, and faithfulness will hold Him together like a sash around His waist.

Peace in His Kingdom

6 The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat. The calf, the lion, and the young ox will chill together, and a little child will lead them.

7 The cow and bear will eat side by side; their babies will rest together. The lion will eat straw like the ox.

8 A baby will play near a cobra’s hole, and a little kid will put his hand in a viper’s nest without getting hurt.

9 No one will harm or destroy on My holy mountain, because the whole earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord like the waters cover the sea.

The Lord Gathers His People

10 In that day, the root of Jesse will stand as a signal for the nations. The people will seek Him, and His resting place will be full of glory.

11 In that day, the Lord will reach out His hand again to reclaim what is left of His people, from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the islands of the sea.

12 He will raise a banner for the nations and gather the outcasts of Israel. He will bring together the scattered of Judah from all over the world.

13 Ephraim’s jealousy will fade, Judah’s enemies will disappear. They will not be beefing with each other anymore.

14 Together they will swoop down on the Philistines to the west, take what is theirs to the east, and rule over Edom and Moab. The people of Ammon will follow them.

15 The Lord will dry up the Gulf of Egypt, wave His hand over the Euphrates, and break it into seven small streams so people can cross over with ease.

16 There will be a highway for God’s people who were left in Assyria, just like when He split the sea for Israel to come out of Egypt.
