Read Genesis 7 in clear, relatable modern language.
The Flood
God told Noah, ‘Listen, get you and your whole fam into the ark. You are the only one out here living right.’
‘Bring seven pairs of every clean animal, male and female, and one pair of every unclean animal, also male and female.’
‘And bring seven pairs of birds too, male and female, so they can keep their species alive on the earth.’
‘In seven days, I am sending the rain. It is going to pour for 40 days and 40 nights. I am wiping out every living thing I made.’
Noah did everything God told him to do, no questions asked.
Noah was 600 years old when the flood started covering the earth.
Noah, his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives went into the ark to escape the flood.
Clean animals, unclean animals, birds, and all kinds of creatures that move along the ground,
came two by two to Noah and went into the ark, just like God said they would.
Seven days later, the floodwaters came, just like God promised.
On the 17th day of the second month of Noah’s 600th year, it went down. The underground springs busted open, and the skies started dumping rain.
It rained nonstop for 40 days and 40 nights.
That same day, Noah, his sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth, along with his wife and his sons’ wives, entered the ark.
They brought every kind of wild animal, livestock, and crawling creature, every bird, every winged thing.
Everything that had the breath of life in it rolled up to Noah and entered the ark.
They came in pairs, male and female, just like God commanded. Then God shut the door behind them.
For 40 days, the flood kept coming, and the water got so high it lifted the ark off the ground.
The water rose and got crazy deep, and the ark just floated there, safe on top of it all.
The water covered everything, even the highest mountains under the sky.
Like, the water was 22 feet higher than the mountains. It was not a game.
Every living thing on land died, birds, livestock, wild animals, and all the people.
Anything that had the breath of life in its nostrils, living on dry land, was wiped out.
God cleaned house, everything gone. Only Noah, his family, and the animals in the ark made it out alive.
The floodwaters stayed over the earth for 150 days.
