Ezekiel 7

The End Has Come

1 The word of the LORD came to me again, saying,

2 “Son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says to the land of Israel: An end is coming. The end has come on the four corners of the land.

3 Now the end is on you, and I will send My anger against you. I will judge you according to your ways and bring all your disgusting acts down on your own head.

4 My eye will not spare you, and I will show no pity. I will repay you according to your ways, while your disgusting acts remain among you. Then you will know that I am the LORD.”

Disaster After Disaster

5 This is what the Lord GOD says: “A disaster, one disaster after another, is coming.

6 An end has come; the end has come. It has woken up against you. Look, it is here.

7 Doom has come to you, you who live in the land. The time has come, the day is near, panic, not joyful shouting, is on the mountains.

8 Now I will soon pour out My wrath on you and spend My anger against you. I will judge you according to your ways and bring all your disgusting acts down on you.

9 My eye will not spare, and I will show no pity. I will repay you according to your ways, while your disgusting acts remain among you. Then you will know that I, the LORD, do the striking.

10 Look, the day is here. It has come. Doom has gone out, the rod has budded, arrogance has bloomed.

11 Violence has grown into a rod of wickedness. None of them will remain, none of their crowd, none of their wealth, none of their importance.

12 The time has come, the day has arrived. Let not the buyer rejoice or the seller grieve, because wrath is against their whole crowd.

13 The seller will not return to what was sold, even if they survive, because the vision concerning the whole crowd will not be reversed. No one will strengthen himself by his wrongdoing.

The Collapse of the People

14 They have blown the trumpet and made everything ready, but no one goes to battle, because My wrath is against their whole crowd.

15 The sword is outside, plague and famine are inside. Anyone in the field will die by the sword. Anyone in the city, famine and plague will consume them.

16 Those who escape will flee to the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them moaning, each over his own sin.

17 All hands will hang limp, and all knees will drip with fear.

18 They will put on sackcloth, and terror will cover them. Shame will be on every face, and baldness on all their heads.

19 They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will be treated as filth. Their silver and gold will not be able to save them in the day of the LORD’s wrath. It will not satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs, because it became the stumbling block of their sin.

The Temple Defiled

20 They were proud of their beautiful ornaments, but they used them to make disgusting idols. So I turned it into filth for them.

21 I will hand it over to foreigners as loot and to the wicked of the earth as plunder, and they will profane it.

22 I will turn My face away from them, and they will profane My treasured place. Violent men will enter it and profane it.

23 Make the chain, because the land is full of bloody crimes and the city is full of violence.

24 I will bring the worst of the nations to take possession of their houses. I will put an end to the pride of the strong, and their holy places will be profaned.

25 Destruction is coming. They will seek peace, but there will be none.

26 Disaster will come upon disaster, rumor upon rumor. They will seek a vision from a prophet, but instruction will perish from the priest and counsel from the elders.

27 The king will mourn, the prince will be clothed with despair, and the hands of the people of the land will tremble. I will deal with them according to their ways, and judge them by their judgments. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”
