The Division of the Land

The Northern Tribal Portions

These are the names of the tribes. Starting from the northern end, beside the way of Hethlon to the entrance of Hamath, and as far as Hazar-enan at the border of Damascus toward the north beside Hamath, running from the east side to the west, Dan gets one portion.

Next to the border of Dan, from the east side to the west, Asher gets one portion.

Next to the border of Asher, from the east side to the west, Naphtali gets one portion.

Next to the border of Naphtali, from the east side to the west, Manasseh gets one portion.

Next to the border of Manasseh, from the east side to the west, Ephraim gets one portion.

Next to the border of Ephraim, from the east side to the west, Reuben gets one portion.

Next to the border of Reuben, from the east side to the west, Judah gets one portion.

The Holy Portion and the City

Next to the border of Judah, from the east side to the west, will be the contribution you present, twenty-five thousand cubits wide, running from the east side to the west, the same length as one tribal portion. The sanctuary will be in the middle of it.

The contribution you present to the LORD will be twenty-five thousand cubits long and ten thousand cubits wide.

This holy contribution will belong to the priests, toward the north twenty-five thousand cubits, toward the west ten thousand cubits, toward the east ten thousand cubits, and toward the south twenty-five thousand cubits. The sanctuary of the LORD will be in the center of it.

It will belong to the consecrated priests, the sons of Zadok, who kept My charge and did not go astray when the sons of Israel went astray, as the Levites did.

It will be a special portion from the contribution of the land, a most holy portion, bordering the territory of the Levites.

Alongside the territory of the priests, the Levites will have twenty-five thousand cubits in length and ten thousand cubits in width. The whole length will be twenty-five thousand cubits and the width ten thousand cubits.

They must not sell or exchange any of it, and the best of the land must not pass to others, because it is holy to the LORD.

The remaining five thousand cubits in width and twenty-five thousand cubits in length will be for common use for the city, for homes and pastureland. The city will be in the middle of it.

These will be its measurements: the north side four thousand five hundred cubits, the south side four thousand five hundred cubits, the east side four thousand five hundred cubits, and the west side four thousand five hundred cubits.

The city will have pastureland, two hundred fifty cubits on the north, two hundred fifty on the south, two hundred fifty on the east, and two hundred fifty on the west.

The remainder of the length alongside the holy contribution, ten thousand cubits to the east and ten thousand to the west, will be next to the holy contribution. Its produce will be food for the workers of the city.

The workers of the city, from all the tribes of Israel, will cultivate it.

The whole contribution will be twenty-five thousand cubits by twenty-five thousand cubits. You will present the holy contribution, along with the city property, as a square.

The Prince’s Portion

The remaining area on both sides of the holy contribution and the city property will belong to the prince. It will extend eastward from the twenty-five thousand cubits of the holy contribution to the east border, and westward from the twenty-five thousand cubits to the west border, alongside the tribal portions. This will belong to the prince. The holy contribution and the sanctuary of the temple will be in the middle of it.

So the prince’s property will lie between the territory of Judah and the territory of Benjamin, apart from the property of the Levites and the city property.

The Southern Tribal Portions

As for the rest of the tribes, from the east side to the west, Benjamin gets one portion.

Next to the border of Benjamin, from the east side to the west, Simeon gets one portion.

Next to the border of Simeon, from the east side to the west, Issachar gets one portion.

Next to the border of Issachar, from the east side to the west, Zebulun gets one portion.

Next to the border of Zebulun, from the east side to the west, Gad gets one portion.

Next to the border of Gad, on the south side toward the south, the boundary will run from Tamar to the waters of Meribah-kadesh, then along the Brook of Egypt to the Great Sea.

The Gates of the City

This is the land you are to allot as an inheritance to the tribes of Israel, and these are their portions,” declares the Lord GOD.

“These will be the exits of the city: On the north side, four thousand five hundred cubits by measurement,

the gates of the city will be named after the tribes of Israel, three gates on the north side: the gate of Reuben one, the gate of Judah one, and the gate of Levi one.

On the east side, four thousand five hundred cubits, three gates: the gate of Joseph one, the gate of Benjamin one, and the gate of Dan one.

On the south side, four thousand five hundred cubits by measurement, three gates: the gate of Simeon one, the gate of Issachar one, and the gate of Zebulun one.

On the west side, four thousand five hundred cubits, three gates: the gate of Gad one, the gate of Asher one, and the gate of Naphtali one.

The distance all around will be eighteen thousand cubits. And from that day on, the name of the city will be: THE LORD IS THERE.
