The Inner Temple

The Holy Place

1 Then he brought me into the nave and measured the side pillars, six cubits wide on each side, the width of the tent.

2 The width of the entrance was ten cubits, and the sides of the entrance were five cubits on each side. He measured its length, forty cubits, and its width, twenty cubits.

The Most Holy Place

3 Then he went inside and measured the pillar of the entrance, two cubits. The entrance was six cubits wide, and the width of the entrance was seven cubits.

4 He measured its length, twenty cubits, and its width, twenty cubits, in front of the nave. He said to me, “This is the Most Holy Place.”

Side Rooms Around the Temple

5 Then he measured the wall of the temple, six cubits thick. The side rooms around the temple were four cubits wide on every side.

6 The side rooms were arranged one above another in three levels, thirty rooms on each level. There were ledges all around the wall of the temple to support the side rooms, so they were not supported by the wall of the temple itself.

7 The side rooms got wider as they went higher, because the structure around the temple went upward, so the temple widened upward. That is why the temple had a stairway going up from the lowest floor to the highest, through the middle floor.

8 I saw that the temple had a raised platform all around it. The foundations of the side rooms were a full rod high, six long cubits.

9 The thickness of the outer wall of the side rooms was five cubits. The open space between the side rooms of the temple

10 and the outer chambers was twenty cubits wide all around the temple.

11 The entrances to the side rooms faced the open space, one entrance toward the north and one toward the south. The width of the open space was five cubits all around.

The Building on the West

12 The building that faced the open area on the west side was seventy cubits wide. The wall of the building was five cubits thick all around, and its length was ninety cubits.

Measurements of the Whole Structure

13 Then he measured the temple, it was one hundred cubits long. The open area and the building and its walls were also one hundred cubits long.

14 The width of the front of the temple, along with the open area to the east, was one hundred cubits.

15 He measured the length of the building facing the open area on the west, along with its galleries on both sides, it was one hundred cubits. The inside of the nave, the vestibule of the temple, and the thresholds were paneled with wood.

The Inner Design

16 From the ground up to the windows, now the windows were covered, the thresholds, the wall spaces, the inner rooms, and the vestibule were paneled all around.

17 From above the entrance to the inner sanctuary, both inside and outside, and on all the walls all around, inside and outside, were carved designs.

18 It was carved with cherubim and palm trees. A palm tree was between each pair of cherubim. Each cherub had two faces.

19 A human face toward the palm tree on one side, and a lion’s face toward the palm tree on the other side. They were carved throughout the whole temple.

20 From the floor to above the entrance, cherubim and palm trees were carved on the wall of the nave.

The Altar and Doors

21 The doorposts of the nave were square, and the front of the sanctuary was just like them.

22 The altar was made of wood, three cubits high and two cubits long. Its corners, base, and sides were all wood. He said to me, “This is the table that is before the LORD.”

23 The nave and the sanctuary each had double doors.

24 Each door had two folding leaves, two leaves for one door and two leaves for the other.

25 Cherubim and palm trees were carved on the doors of the nave, just like those carved on the walls. A wooden canopy was over the front of the vestibule outside.

26 There were recessed windows and palm trees on each side of the vestibule, on the side rooms of the temple, and on the canopies.
