Deuteronomy 8

Remember How God Took Care of You in the Wilderness

1 Moses said, “Make sure you obey all the commands I am giving you today, so you all can live, grow, and take over the land the Lord promised to your ancestors."

2 “Remember how the Lord led you through the wilderness for 40 years, He was testing you to see if you would stay humble and follow His commands.”

3 “He let you go hungry, then fed you with manna to show you that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the Lord!”

4 “Your clothes did not wear out, and your feet never swelled up after all those years.”

5 “Understand this: Just like a father corrects his child, the Lord has been disciplining you.”

Obey God & You Will Prosper

6 “So obey the Lord, walk in His ways, and fear Him.”

7 “He is bringing you into a good land, full of rivers, springs, and underground water flowing from valleys and hills.”

8 “It is a land full of wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olive oil, and honey.”

9 “You will have plenty to eat and lack nothing. The land is full of iron and copper in the hills.”

10 “When you eat and are full, do not forget to thank the Lord for blessing you with this good land.”

Do Not Get Proud & Forget Where You Came From

11 “Be careful not to forget the Lord by ignoring His commands, rules, and laws!”

12 “When you eat well, build nice houses, and live comfortably?”

13 “When your flocks, silver, and gold increase, and you got everything you need?”

14 “Do not let your heart get proud and forget that it was the Lord who brought you out of slavery in Egypt!”

15 “He led you through the wilderness full of snakes and scorpions, in a dry land with no water. He made water flow out of solid rock for you!”

16 “He gave you manna in the wilderness to humble you and test you, so He could bless you in the end.”

It Is God, Not You, Who Gives Success

17 “Do not start thinking, ‘I did this all on my own! I got rich by my own power!’”

18 “Nah, remember the Lord is the one who gives you the power to be successful. That is part of the covenant He made with your ancestors.”

If You Forget God & Chase Other Gods, You Will Be Destroyed

19 “If you all forget the Lord and start worshiping other gods, I am warning you right now, you will be destroyed!”

20 “Just like the nations before you got wiped out, that is what is going to happen if you disobey the Lord.”
