Deuteronomy 13

Watch Out for False Prophets & Dreams

1 If somebody comes up claiming to be a prophet, or says they had a dream from God, And they show you some sign or miracle…

2 …and that sign or miracle really happens, But then they say, “Let us go follow other gods”, ones you do not know, “and let us worship them?”

3 Do not fall for it. Do not listen. The Lord your God is testing you, To see if you really love Him with all your heart and soul.

4 Stick with God. Respect Him, do what He says, listen to His voice, Serve Him only, and hold on tight.

5 That so-called prophet or dreamer, He must go. He spoke against God and tried to pull you away from the One Who brought you outta Egypt, outta slavery. He tried to take you off the path God told you to walk. You must take him out. Get rid of that evil.

Even If It Is Family, Do Not Let Them Lead You to False Gods

6 If your own brother, son, daughter, wife, or best friend Secretly whispers to you, “Listen, let us go worship other gods,”, gods you or your ancestors never knew,

7 From nations near or far, From one end of the earth to the other.

8 Do not agree. Do not listen. Do not have mercy. Do not feel sorry. Do not protect them.

9 You must be the first to call them out and take them out, then everybody else joins in.

10 Stone them till they are dead. They tried to get you to leave the Lord your God, The One who brought you outta Egypt, outta that slave life.

11 Then everybody in Israel will hear about it and get shook, They will think twice before doing that kind of evil again.

Whole Cities Turning on God, Do Not Let It Slide

12 If you hear word in one of your towns that God is giving you,

13 That some shady folks from your own people Are out here talking wild like, “Listen, let us go worship other gods,”, gods you never knew.

14 Look into it. Investigate. Ask questions. Dig deep. If it is true, if that city’s really out here wilding against God…

15 Then you must take the whole city out. Kill everybody, people and animals too.

16 Burn the whole place down. Pile up everything and burn it all as a sacrifice to the Lord. Do not rebuild that town, it is done forever.

17 Do not take nothing from that city. No loot, no treasure. That way the Lord will turn from His anger, Show you mercy, and bless you like He promised.

18 If you listen to God, follow His laws, and do what is right, He will keep you blessed and covered.
