Elisha’s Miracles: Oil, a Kid, and Food

1 Now, a woman, one of the wives of the sons of the prophets, cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant, my husband, passed away! And you know your servant feared the Lord. But now a creditor is coming to take my two kids as slaves!”

2 Elisha asked her, “What can I do for you, Tell me, what do you got in the house?” She said, “Your servant do not have anything in the house except a little bit of oil in a jug.”

3 He told her, "Go out and borrow empty jars from all your neighbors, as many as you can get. Do not get just a few.”

4 “Then go in, close the door behind you and your kids, and pour oil into all those jars. As each one gets full, set it aside.”

5 So she dipped from him and closed the door behind her and her kids. They kept bringing her jars, and she kept pouring.

6 When the jars were full, she told her son, “Bring me another jar.” But he told her, “There are no more jars.” Then the oil stopped flowing.

7 She went and told the man of God. He said, “Go sell the oil and pay off your debt. You and your kids can live off the rest.”

Elisha and the Shunammite Woman

8 One day Elisha was passing through Shunem, where a rich woman lived. She convinced him to stay and eat some food. So every time he passed by, he would stop there to eat.

9 She told her husband, “Look, I know this dude who keeps coming by us is a holy man of God.”

10 “Let us build a small upper room on the roof and put a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp there for him. So whenever he comes to us, he can chill there."

11 One day he came there, went into the upper room, and crashed out.

12 He told his servant Gehazi, “Call this Shunammite woman.” So he called her, and she stood before him.

13 Elisha told Gehazi, “Tell her now, ‘Look, you have gone through all this trouble for us. What can I do for you, You want me to speak to the king or the commander of the army for you, '" She answered, “Nah, I am good. I live among my own people.”

14 Then he said, “So what should be done for her,” Gehazi said, “Well, she does not have any son, and her husband is old.”

15 He said, “Call her.” So he called her, and she stood in the doorway.

16 Elisha told her, “Around this time next year, you are going to be holding a son.” She said, “Nah, my lord, man of God, do not play with your servant!”

17 But the woman did conceive and birthed a son at that same time the next year, just like Elisha had told her.

18 Now, the kid grew up. One day he went out to his pops, who was with the reapers.

19 He told his pops, “My head! My head!” His pops told a servant, “Take him to his mama.”

20 He picked him up and brought him to his mama. The kid sat on her lap until noon, and then he passed away.

21 She went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, closed the door behind him, and left.

22 Then she called her husband and said, “Send me one of the servants and one of the donkeys, so I can roll to the man of God quick and come back.”

23 He said, “Why are you going to him today, It there is no New Moon or Sabbath.” She said, “It is all good.”

24 She saddled the donkey and told her servant, “Lead on! Do not slow down for me unless I tell you.”

25 So she dipped and came to the man of God at Mount Carmel. When the man of God saw her from a distance, he told Gehazi his servant, “Look, there is the Shunammite woman!”

26 “Run now to meet her and ask her, ‘Are you straight, Is your husband straight, Is the kid straight?’” She answered, “We all straight.”

27 When she came to the man of God at the hill, she grabbed his feet. Gehazi came to push her away, but the man of God said, “Leave her alone, because her soul is vexed within her, and the Lord hid it from me and did not tell me.”

28 She said, “Did I ask my lord for a son, Did I not tell you, ‘Do not play with me’?”

29 Then he told Gehazi, “Strap up your waist, take my staff in your hand, and bounce! If you meet anyone, do not greet them. If anyone greets you, do not answer them. Lay my staff on the kid’s face.”

30 But the kid’s mama said, “As the Lord lives and as your soul lives, I am not leaving you!” So Elisha got up and followed her.

31 Gehazi went ahead of them and laid the staff on the kid’s face, but there was no sound or response. So he went back to meet Elisha and told him, “The kid did not wake up.”

32 When Elisha came into the house, there was the kid, dead, laid out on his bed.

33 He went in, closed the door behind the two of them, and prayed to the Lord.

34 Then he went up and stretched himself out on the kid, putting his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands. As he stretched himself out over him, the kid’s body started to get warm.

35 Then he pulled back and walked around in the house once or twice, then went up and stretched himself out on him again. And the kid sneezed seven times, and then the kid opened his eyes.

36 He called Gehazi and said, “Call this Shunammite woman.” So he called her. When she came to him, he said, “Pick up your son.”

37 She came in, fell at his feet, and bowed down to the ground. Then she picked up her son and left.

Elisha Cleans Up the Stew

38 Elisha came back to Gilgal when there was a famine in the land. And the sons of the prophets were sitting before him. He told his servant, “Put the big pot on and cook some stew for the sons of the prophets."

39 One of them went out into the field to gather herbs and found a wild vine and picked a bunch of wild gourds from it, filling his cloak. He came back and sliced them into the pot of stew, because they did not know what they were.

40 They poured out the stew for the men to eat. But as they were eating the stew, they yelled out, “Man of God, there is death in the pot!” And they could not eat it.

41 He said, “Then bring some flour.” He threw it into the pot and said, “Pour it out for the people so they can eat.” And there was no harm in the pot.

Elisha Feeds a Hundred

42 A man came from Baal-Shalishah, bringing the man of God twenty loaves of barley bread, made from the first ripe grain, and some fresh grain in his sack. Elisha said, “Give it to the people so they can eat.”

43 But his servant said, “How am I am going to set this before a hundred men?” He said, “Give it to the people so they can eat, because this is what the Lord says: ‘They will eat and still have leftovers!’”

44 So he set it before them, and they ate and had leftovers, according to the word of the Lord.
