Paul’s Joy in the Corinthians
So, since we got these promises, fam, let us clean up our act, inside and out. Let us stay holy and show God the respect He deserves.
Open your hearts to us! We have not wronged or hurt anybody, and we did not mess anybody up.
I am not saying this to judge you all. You are in our hearts; we are with you through life and death.
I am confident in you and proud of you. Even with all our struggles, I am full of joy.
When we came to Macedonia, we were stressed out. No peace, only conflicts outside and fear inside.
But God, who lifts up the downhearted, comforted us when Titus showed up.
And it was not just because he was there, it was because of the encouragement he got from you all. He told us how much you care, how sorry you were, and how loyal you are to me, which made me even happier.
Even if I made you feel bad with my letter, I do not regret it, well, maybe I did for a minute. But I see it only hurt you for a little while.
Now I am glad, not because you got hurt but because your sorrow led to change. You felt godly sorrow, so you did not lose anything because of us.
See, godly sorrow brings real change that leads to salvation and no regret. But worldly sorrow just brings death.
Look at what this godly sorrow did in you, it made you eager to clear yourselves, angry at the wrong, afraid of letting it happen again, and full of concern and justice. You showed that you are clean in this.
So even though I wrote to you, it was not just about the one who did wrong or the one who got wronged, but so you all could see how much you mean to us in God’s eyes.
We were encouraged, and your joy with Titus only made us happier. You all refreshed his spirit.
I was proud to brag about you to him, and you all did not let me down. Just like everything I told you all is true, what I said about you to Titus turned out true too.
Now he is feeling even closer to you all, remembering how obedient you were and how you welcomed him with respect.
I am glad I can have confidence in you all the way.
