The Temple Goes Up

1 Then Solomon started building the Lord’s temple in Jerusalem, on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had shown up to his pops David. It was on the spot Da” id had set aside, the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

2 He started building o” the second day of the second month, in the fourth year of his rule.

3 Here is the rundown of how Solomon laid the foundation for building God’s temple: the length was ninety feet, and the width was thirty feet, according to the old measurements.

4 The porch in front of the main hall was thirty feet long, matching the width of the temple, and its height was also thirty feet. He covered the inside with pure gold.

5 He lined the main hall with cypress timber, then covered that with fine gold, and put palm trees and chains on it.

6 He decorated the temple with precious stones for beauty. The gold was pure gold from Parvaim.

7 He covered the temple’s beams, doorframes, walls, and doors with gold, and carved cherubim on the walls.

8 He also built the Most Holy Place. Its length was thirty feet, matching the width of the temple, and its width was also thirty feet. He covered it with about twenty-two tons of pure gold.

9 The weight of the nails was about twelve ounces of gold. And he covered the upper rooms with gold.

10 He made two carved cherubim for the Most Holy Place and covered them with gold.

11 The wings of the cherubim were thirty feet long in total. One wing of the first cherub was seven and a half feet long, touching the temple wall, and its other wing, also seven and a half feet long, touched the wing of the second cherub.

12 And the wing of the second cherub, seven and a half feet long, touched the temple wall, and its other wing, also seven and a half feet long, touched the wing of the first cherub.

13 The wings of these cherubim were spread out thirty feet. They were standing on their feet, with their faces turned toward the main hall.

14 He made the curtain of blue, purple, crimson yarn, and fine linen, and put cherubim on it.

15 In front of the temple, he made two pillars, each about fifty-two and a half feet high, with a capital about seven and a half feet high on top of each one.

16 He made chains in the inner sanctuary and put them on the tops of the pillars. He also made a hundred pomegranates and put them on the chains.

17 He set up the pillars in front of the temple, one on the right and one on the left. He named the one on the right Jachin, and the one on the left Boaz.
