King Jotham: Building & Winning

1 Jotham was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he ruled in Jerusalem for sixteen years. His mama’s name was Jerushah daughter of Zadok.

2 He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just like his pops Uzziah had done. However, he did not bust into the Lord’s temple. But the people still kept messing up.

3 He built the Upper Gate of the Lord’s temple, and he did a lot of building on the wall of Ophel.

4 He also built cities in the hill country of Judah, and in the forests he built fortresses and towers.

5 He fought with the king of the Ammonites and came out on top. So the Ammonites gave him about seven thousand five hundred pounds of silver, about sixty-two thousand bushels of wheat, and about sixty-two thousand bushels of barley in that year. They paid him the same amount in the second year and in the third.

6 Jotham grew powerful, because he set his ways straight before the Lord his God.

7 As for the rest of Jotham’s story, all his wars, and all he did, look, it is written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah.

8 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he ruled for sixteen years in Jerusalem.

9 Jotham passed away and joined his ancestors, and they buried him in the City of David. And his son Ahaz took over as king.
