David’s Final Gifts & Praise; Solomon Reigns

1 King David told the whole assembly, “My son Solomon, the one God chose, is still young and does not have much experience, and the work is massive, because this is not for any regular building, but for the Lord God Himself.”

2 “Now, I went all out to get ready for the temple of my God: gold for the gold items, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron, and wood for the wood, onyx stones, stones for setting, glittering stones of various colors, all kinds of precious stones, and a ton of marble.”

3 “And beyond all that, because I truly love the temple of my God, I am giving my own personal gold and silver for the temple of my God, on top of everything I already set aside for the holy temple.”

4 “That is about eleven thousand pounds of gold from Ophir, and about twenty-six thousand pounds of refined silver for overlaying the walls of the buildings?”

5 “For all the gold work and for the silver work, and for all the work to be done by the craftsmen. So now, who is ready to volunteer their stuff to the Lord today?”

6 Then the heads of families, the leaders of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king’s work volunteered willingly.

7 They gave for the service of God’s temple about eighteen thousand pounds of gold, about thirty-seven thousand pounds of silver, twenty-two thousand pounds of bronze, and a hundred twenty-five thousand pounds of iron.

8 Anyone who had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the Lord’s temple, under the care of Jehiel the Gershonite.

9 And the people were hyped because they volunteered so willingly, because they gave to the Lord with a whole heart. King David was also super hyped and praised the Lord.

David’s Prayer of Praise

10 So David blessed the Lord in front of the whole assembly and said, “Blessed are You, Lord, God of our father Israel, forever and ever.”

11 “Yours, Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty! For everything in heaven and on earth is Yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; You are honored as head over everything!”

12 “Riches and honor come from You. You rule over everything. In Your hand are power and might, and it is in Your hand to make anyone great and strong.”

13 “So now, our God, we thank You and praise Your glorious Name!”

14 “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to volunteer like this, For everything comes from You, and we only gave You what came from Your own hand."

15 “For we are foreigners and temporary residents before You, just like all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope.”

16 “Lord our God, all this massive stuff that we prepared to build a temple for Your holy Name, it came from Your hand, and it is all Yours.”

17 “I know, my God, that You test the heart and You are happy with honesty. With an honest heart, I willingly gave all these things. And now I have seen Your people here, willingly giving to You, and I am hyped!”

18 “Lord, God of our ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, keep this mindset and these thoughts in the hearts of Your people forever, and keep their hearts true to You.”

19 “And give my son Solomon a whole heart to keep Your commands, Your testimonies, and Your rules, and to do all these things, and to build the temple for which I made preparations.”

20 Then David told the whole assembly, “Now, praise the Lord your God!” So the whole assembly praised the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and they bowed down and prostrated themselves before the Lord and the king.

Solomon Crowned Again

21 The next day, they offered sacrifices to the Lord and presented burnt offerings to the Lord: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and many sacrifices for all Israel.

22 They ate and drank before the Lord that day with great joy. They made David’s son Solomon king a second time and anointed him to the Lord as ruler, and Zadok as priest.

23 Then Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king in place of his daddy David. He was successful, and all Israel obeyed him.

24 All the officials, the mighty warriors, and all of King David’s sons pledged their allegiance to King Solomon.

25 And the Lord made Solomon super great in the sight of all Israel and gave him royal majesty that no king before him in Israel had.

David’s Death

26 David son of Jesse ruled over all Israel.

27 The time he ruled over Israel was forty years: he ruled seven years in Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

28 He passed away at a ripe old age, full of days, riches, and honor. And his son Solomon took over as king in his place.

29 As for the rest of King David’s story, from beginning to end, look, it is written in the records of Samuel the seer, in the records of Nathan the prophet, and in the records of Gad the seer,

30 With all his rule, his power, and the times that went down for him and for Israel and for all the kingdoms of the lands.
